Lesher Viking Team wins BACK-to-BACK 2018 & 2019 District Wrestling Tournaments
Congratulations to our coaches and 71 student-athletes on their 8-0 undefeated season and commanding victory at Saturday’s PSD tournament at Fort Collins High School to be named the 2019 District Wrestling Champions! The below pictures are of the whole team and the six 1st place finishers for their respective weight classes. The entire team has competed at the highest levels, and even more importantly and impressive was the class and character that our team displayed throughout the season including maintaining academic eligibility the entire time. On Saturday, match after match, our student-athletes won with humility and lost with grace; both of which are very difficult to teach and model at any level of competition. Congratulations again and Go Vikings!!!
Lesher Viking Team wins 2018 District Wrestling Tournament
The 2018 Lesher Viking Wrestling team was lead by Head Coach Matthew Moeller. With only one returning district placer from 2017, we had an incredible season going 7-1 in the regular season duals, often battling illness and line up holes to finish tied for first in PSD. With some great coaching from the staff of the Vikings, and an amazing show of resilience and GRIT by the wrestlers, we went into the post season district tournament at Fort Collins High School with high expectations; even after suffering our first dual loss four days prior to Preston (by 3 points!). The team showed up on Saturday, March 3rd and had outstanding performances to take FIRST PLACE at the DISTRICT TOURNAMENT winning 207 to 188.5 over Preston and avenging the only loss of the season. Individual accomplishments included several athletes finishing in the top 4 at districts in their weight classes! It was a wonderful season of growth and determination, and the staff looks forward to working with the next incoming group of student-athletes to defend the title in 2019!!!
Lesher Viking Team wins 2016 District Wrestling Tournament
Congrats to our 7th and 8th grade wrestling team for coming from behind during the final round on Saturday, 3/5 to win the PSD Wrestling Championship! The team crowned 6 district champions and 10 place winners (top 4) out of the 15 weight classes. When a student wins a district athletic title in an individual sport at Lesher they get their picture on our Wall of Champions, and we commemorate the team with the team picture on our Wall of Champions, add a year to the team championship banner in the gym, give each team member a championship t-shirt, and recognize the team at an upcoming pep assembly (and in the Coloradoan and on our website). Way to go grapplers!
