10th Annual Adopt-a-Family Program!

10th Annual Adopt-a-Family was a great success!

Hi Students, Parents and Staff!

We hope you are having a great end to our first semester and are ready for the holiday break! We had a great culmination to our 10th Annual Adopt-a-Family community service program (see the attached pics) and were able to help out 4 families from one of our feeder elementary schools! The Lesher Community was so generous and helped in the following ways:

  • Bringing essential household items (i.e. cleaning supplies, kitchen items, toiletries, food, etc.);
  • Bringing gifts, toys or gift cards;
  • Donating wrapping paper to wrap all the gifts;
  • Donating new or like new clothing for family members;
  • Writing cards/notes to the families; and
  • Drawing pictures for younger family members.

Highlights from THIS YEAR- Lesher’s Adopt-a-Family school-wide community service project involved a lot of our 800 students and 70+ staff members to bless 4 “adopted” families during this holiday season! Families that benefited were identified as low-income or in-crisis and all were from a Lesher feeder elementary school. All the families received gift cards averaging $400/family and on average about 8-10 boxes filled with food, personal care products, school supplies, household products, toys, and new or like-new clothing that added up to 1,000s of dollars per family. The total amount donated by the Lesher community was around $5,000!

Thank you for your support of our 2020 10th Annual Adopt-a-Family program! GO VIKINGS!

Hello Lesher Middle School Families,

Happy November and we are happy to share that Lesher Middle School is kicking off our TENTH annual Adopt-a-Family program! Last year was a great success thanks to our community’s help. Check out this PowerPoint from 2 years ago to gain a glimpse of the positive impact this program has on everyone that participates! Each year we are able to help out about 20 families from Lesher’s feeder elementary schools. This year, due to COIVD, we are focusing on helping just 3 families from one of our feeder elementary schools. Each selected family completed a needs checklist and we will work together to gather the items for these “adopted” families. The families who participate have been identified as low-income or in-crisis and our assistance is very important. The checklist includes food, grocery store gift certificates, personal care products, school supplies, household products, and new or like-new clothing.

Here are the items our 3 "Adopted" families requested:    6th Grade: Family #1;     7th Grade: Family #2;     8th Grade: Family #3 (Family #3 that we initially adopted just moved out of state. We are working on adopting a 3rd family at this time…if we are unable to find a 3rd family, we will collect gift cards and donate them to a Lesher family in-need)The three families requested a lot of items and you can select the grade-level that applies to you or choose to help with any family you’d like.

All items can be brought to Lesher during normal school hours, Monday-Thursday, beginning Monday, 11/30-Thursday, 12/10. Our adopted families will have their gifts delivered to their homes on Friday, 12/11.

Lesher students and families are very enthusiastic about this program and we thank you for your help! Below are some ways any student or family can help and all items and gifts can be brought to Lesher's main office.

  • Bringing essential household items (i.e. cleaning supplies, kitchen items, toiletries, food, etc.). The three families requested  items from the above needs checklists;
  • Bringing gifts or gift cards;
  • Donating wrapping paper;
  • Writing cards/notes to the families; and
  • Drawing pictures for younger family members.

Highlights from previous years - Lesher’s Adopt-a-Family school-wide community service project involves most of our 800 students and 70+ staff members to bless about 20 “adopted” families during the holiday season! Families that benefit are identified as low-income or in crisis and all are from Lesher’s feeder elementary schools. Last year, each family received gift cards averaging $150/family and on average about 10 boxes filled with food, personal care products, school supplies, household products, toys, and new or like-new clothing that averaged 100s of dollars per family. The total amount donated by the Lesher community averages about $10,000 per year!
