This year our students will take PARCC/CMAS assessments in English Literature Arts (ELA), mathematics, social studies (7th grade only), and science (8th grade only). 7th and 8th graders will take the social studies and science tests on Tuesday, April 18. All of our students will take the math and ELA tests April 12, 13, and 14. A good way to have a successful testing day is for students to be well rested and have a good breakfast. We will also help them understand how to best take the test. These tests are great practice for the standardized tests they will take in high school (PSAT, SAT, AP, IB exams, etc.). Our students will receive an alternative schedule for these days the Monday before testing.
Due to feedback from previous years, the state testing window has been shortened and the amount of time students will spend on testing has been reduced. These state assessments, which are required by state and federal law, offer valuable information. We use the results from these assessments to monitor student growth, refine alignment of curriculum to state standards and assist with class placement. We have been told that the state will return test results earlier than in prior years, giving teachers and administration time to use the results while planning for the 2017-18 school year. Parents will also receive the individual score reports for all state assessments their children take quicker than in years past.
